Improvement of Passing Game and Off-Ball Movement.
Improvement of Passing Accuracy and Off-Ball Movement
Duration: 90 minutes
Objective: Enhance passing accuracy and the players' ability to move without the ball, creating space and attacking opportunities.
1. Warm-Up (15 minutes)
Description: Mobility exercises to improve the range of motion and prepare the body for quick movements and passing precision.
Exercises:
General Mobility: Dynamic exercises focusing on the range of motion of the legs, hips, and shoulders, essential for effective passing and quick off-ball cuts.
Agility and Coordination Work: Lateral movements, direction changes, and foot coordination exercises to improve agility and physical readiness. 3-Second, 3-Man Ground Ball to Shot Warm-Up
Benefit: These exercises help prepare the body for quick movements, improve flexibility, and ensure players are ready for technical and tactical drills.
2. Technical Work (25 minutes)
Description: Exercises aimed at improving passing accuracy and decision-making under pressure, focused on real-game movements.
Exercises:
Drill 1: Dynamic Partner Passing: This drill improves decision-making in numerical superiority situations (2v1). Players practice passing accuracy, reading the defender, and reacting quickly in a confined space.
Drill 2: Triangle Passing Drill: In this drill, three players form a triangle and work on quick and precise passing between each other. The goal is to improve passing synchronization and the ability to maintain possession while creating attacking options.
Benefit: These drills help players improve passing accuracy and speed, as well as the ability to read the game and react quickly to teammates' and defenders' movements.
3. Tactical Work (40 minutes)
Description: Exercises to work on off-ball movement and creating offensive opportunities, with an emphasis on timing and decision-making in real-time situations.
Exercises:
Drill 1:Man up Man down skill builder: Players practice passing and cutting, improving coordination between them and the ability to cut toward the ball after making a pass. This drill emphasizes the importance of off-ball movement and synchronization with teammates.
Drill 2: Up 1 Add 1 Transition drill: Players are divided in two teams and practice 1v1-2v2-3v3 … situations with an emphasis on off-ball movement. Players are encouraged to create space by cutting and make quick, accurate passes in a small-sided game setting.
Benefit: These exercises help players understand the importance of off-ball movement to create space, improve pass synchronization, and increase offensive fluidity.
4. Games/Competition (40 minutes)
Description: A small-sided game allowing players to apply the skills practiced in a real-game environment, with a special focus on passing speed and accuracy, as well as off-ball movement.
Exercise:
King of the Field (3v3 or 4v4): Players practice in a small field where they must focus on making quick passes and cutting off the ball. Quick decision-making and applying passing and off-ball movement skills in dynamic situations are emphasized.
Benefit: This exercise simulates a real-game scenario where players must apply everything they've learned, improving decision-making, synchronization, and communication.
5. Cool Down (10 minutes)
Description: Stretching and relaxation to reduce muscle tension and improve flexibility.
Exercises:
Leg and Arm Stretches: Focused on muscles worked during the session, such as quadriceps, hamstrings, triceps, and shoulders.
Relaxation Techniques: Deep breathing and light stretches to help players relax and reduce muscle tension.
Benefit: The cool-down aids in better recovery, prevents injuries, and improves overall flexibility.
Session Benefits
This session is designed to improve passing accuracy and players' ability to move without the ball, creating more offensive options and improving fluidity in the game. The 2v1 Passing Drill and Triangle Passing Drill develop passing skills and quick decision-making. The Give and Go Drill and 2v2 with Off-Ball Movement improve synchronization, off-ball movement, and space creation on the field. The Small-Sided Game allows players to practice these skills in a competitive environment, simulating real-game situations.
By the end of the session, players will have improved both their passing ability and off-ball movement, two key elements for effective and dynamic team play.
